The aim of our project is to build a community garden which provides children the opportunity to grow, harvest and eat fresh fruit and vegetables whilst also learning about ecosystems and sustainability. The children will be involved in the different aspects and areas of the community garden, planting seeds/seedlings, monitoring the growth of plants and harvesting fruit and veg. Then they will cook or prepare their produce, sharing their creations and learning. They will also integrate worm farms, chickens and compost into the processes of gardening and preparation. The expected (environmental and educational) outcomes of the project include: Healthy lifestyles in terms of fruit and veg, and how they can increase their intake and creatively cook. Civics and citizenship in terms of contributing to community projects, building a sense of belonging and shared goals. Sustainability through waste management, composting and recycling.
