Creative Composters

Thornbury Primary School

The aim of our project is to purchase two worm farms and create a see-through compost container to complement our Garden Education program and reduce waste at school. The children will be involved in designing signage and compost container, placement / promotion of worm farms in school, adding to worm farms daily, monitoring and recording waste not going to landfill, what will breakdown and how long it takes in different systems. The expected (environmental and educational) outcomes of the project include: using this living laboratory to discover and explore the process and importance of reducing waste, this will involve maths, language, literacy and scientific areas such as biology and soil chemistry.
