The aim of our project is to involve students and their families to re-establish the sustainable community gardens that became derelict due to the COVID situation in Melbourne. Our families would derive great economic, physical and mental health and wellbeing benefits from involvement in this project. The children will be involved in planting food from seedlings, learning about recycling and sustainable use of food waste, building awareness of good health and nutrition. The expected (environmental and educational) outcomes of the project include providing time for family members to share gardening knowledge and experiences with their children, reinvigorating sustainable practices and educating about recycling. We will use our worm farms to teach about sustainability and waste management, in conjunction with the Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden resources to teach about good health and nutrition.
