Our Waiara (hungry) Bush Tucker Garden

Goodstart Early Learning Kenmore Kersley Road

The aim of our project is to build a bush tucker garden. The incorporation of a bush tucker garden into our centre is a key element of our Reconciliation Action Plan and will provide opportunities for the children and families to develop their knowledge and understanding of our first nations people and their culture. The children will be involved in all aspects of the bush tucker garden from building garden beds, researching the different native plants, planting and caring for the seedlings and then harvesting and eating the bush tucker. The children will be responsible for sharing their knowledge with their family and friends spreading this information through our community. The expected (environmental and educational) outcomes of the project include our students learning about native Australian plants, bush tucker and the culture of our first nations peoples as well as plant life cycles including the role bees play in pollination. Our local environment will be enhanced by the inclusion of native plants and bees to pollinate around our community.
