The aim of our project is to enhance the Kindergarten playground area by including additional native plants to create a native habitat. We hope to increase student understanding of the importance of natural habitats, attract wildlife and involve the local Indigenous community in plant selection. The children will be involved in working with local Indigenous Landcare organisation Western Mulga to plant native seedlings. Once these have grown in the organisations greenhouses (a tray will be left at the Kindergarten for students to observe), a number of them will be returned to the school for students to plant. The expected (environmental and educational) outcomes of the project include to enhance the native habitat in the Kindergarten outdoor area and to involve students in planting and growing seedlings prior to developing a garden bed.
