The aim of our project is for Aboriginal students from Yass Public and the local high school to work with community members to build a native bush tucker garden. Students will propagate, harvest and cook bush tucker and then share their knowledge with their school communities. The children will be involved in planning, planting, caring for, harvesting and cooking of plants in the garden. They will then take on a leadership role by teaching students and the school community about the importance of sustainable practices in caring for our land. The expected (environmental and educational) outcomes of the project include student and community understanding of sustainable living practices, real world learning and practical skills, promoting community partnerships, student well-being through healthy lifestyles and attracting native animals through native habitats.
