The aim of our project is to grow enough fruit to feed our whole school daily, through a potted fruit orchard at our school entrance. The children will be involved in designing, planting, maintaining, documenting growth and production (Farm and STEM classes), harvesting and consuming the orchard’s produce. The expected (environmental and educational) outcomes of the project include increasing students’ capacity for self-sufficiency, learning about food production and seasonal variation, learning how to care for fruit trees including actively pruning, watering, pollinating, fertilising, harvesting the orchard and experiencing the great satisfaction of feeding themselves healthy food they grew themselves.
