The aim of our project is to teach children to grow, harvest and prepare their own fruit and vegetables has a positive impact on the food choices students make. Each year our program grows and flourishes and is an essential part of Chevallum’s unique philosophy. The children will be involved in real-life, authentic and rich learning experiences. Our program promotes individual accountability, collaboration and working together as part of a community. Students will be involved in the planning process, planting, ongoing maintenance, harvesting, cooking and of course eating the outcomes of this project. The expected (environmental and educational) outcomes of the project include developing an understanding of plant life cycles, botany, ecosystems, science, environmental sustainability, and with constant links to literacy and numeracy. It promotes critical thinking, teamwork, an understanding of cause and effect, and social benefits to all children, including those with special needs.
