Bush Tucker Garden Trail

St Andrew's Catholic School Ferny Grove

The aim of our project is to engage the community in exploring our site to identify, investigate and label our native environment. The students will design, plant, and create a Bush Tucker Trail and Garden with edible native plants to learn about their importance in Indigenous culture, exploring the traditional uses of the plants and trees. The children will be involved in researching, designing, and establishing a school Bush Tucker Garden and Trail to foster understanding of the Indigenous cultural perspectives. Information researched by the students will be linked to a QR Code detailing the Indigenous and botanical name of the plant or tree and its uses in Indigenous culture. The expected (environmental and educational) outcomes of the project include inspiring the students to develop sustainable practices and the importance of caring for our environment to increase our habitat for living things by: planting for pollinators and wildlife. Hands on learning-planting, mulching, worm farm, water management Building interactions with the community and other students via social media and newsletter.
