The aim of our project is to make a bush tucker garden from native and local plants to create sustainable food production for our school as well as encouraging our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students to develop a stronger connection and understanding of country and environment. The children will be involved in planting, maintaining and harvesting the plants. Students will also research and create identification cards about each of the plants being grown. After a successful harvest, students can sell the produce back to the community to re-invest proceeds back into our garden. The expected (environmental and educational) outcomes of the project include being able to explain the interactions and connections between people, places and environments; to be able to describe strategies to make school healthy and safe; and act to plan and adopt healthy food choices that support sustainable practices at school.
