The project aimed to create a new, sustainable, edible vegetable garden for children to explore nature and to help them understand the importance of protecting and respecting the natural environment. Our children grew a variety of fruits and vegetables which began with adding new soil to the garden beds to provide a better growing environment for the new plants.
They liked to dig and plant plants in the soil by themselves. Watering the plants and pulling weeds are also activities that children liked to do. Throughout the journey, our children enjoyed observing the growth process of the vegetables and fruits and learned about the habitat of small insects. Picking fresh carrots and strawberries from the garden were the most enjoyable activities for our children.
Through this project, we were able to create a new, sustainable and edible garden for our children to learn and explore as well as for them to experience the fun of planting. Our families were also involved in the project. They took part in our busy bee day and planted with the children. Contributions from families increased the children’s enthusiasm in the planting journey.
