Our project aimed to improve the environmental practices of our school by developing and maintaining a school-wide compost and worm farming system and vegetable garden. Our students were involved in a range of roles including designing the space that these systems and the garden would be in and building the compost and worm farm infrastructure. They contributed in building and filling the raised garden bed, planting, mulching and looking after the vegetables that they had chosen for the vegetable garden. The students loved learning about composting and worm farming and the processes involved when vegetable and fruit scraps are breaking down. They were curious about the results that would occur as these scraps broke down and what this could then be used for in our garden space. We currently have a school wide composting and worm farming system that helps to reduce our landfill waste. The compost and worm farming systems as well as the vegetable garden are organised and maintained by the wonderful students that make up our Eco Warriors.
