Indigenous Bush Tucker Garden

All Saints Primary School

The use of this grant has allowed our school to involve children ‘first hand’ in the planting and care of Indigenous Bush Tucker and sensory plants which they thoroughly enjoyed. We successfully planted the seedlings in Term 4 2019 and are maintaining the plants we bought with the grant from our local native nursery ‘Seawinds’. There were a couple of plants we needed to order and are awaiting their delivery. In term 1 of 2020, parents were invited to help prepare the gardening spaces, and the children were involved in planting and watering the seedlings. All school children were shown the new Indigenous garden space and investigated the plants there, they were still small and not ready to be harvested.

Due to term 1 being interrupted by COVID-19 and term 2 being largely offsite remote learning, we were not been able to celebrate the space with parents and the local community as planned. Biodiversity Day 2020 will continue to have a large focus on the local Indigenous plant species and involve children engaging with our new garden spaces.
