Rainforest Restoration Project

Mooloolah State School

The aim of our project was to restore our rainforest area to a usable teaching environment and plant a butterfly host garden. The school rainforest gully feeds into the critically endangered lowland subtropical rainforest, home to threatened fauna species – Richmond Birdwing Butterfly and Coxens Fig Parrot. Restoring the school rainforest will help retain this valuable ecosystem and keep the river that supports it clean and healthy. We held a working bee to clear weeds and rubbish from the rainforest and creek bed, rebuilt a retaining wall and established a flow of water from a water tank through the rainforest area to simulate a flowing creek.
