Nature Play Space

Our goal was to enhance the play space of the Early Childhood playground at our school. We wanted to provide children with play areas where they can explore and connect with nature. In order to achieve this goal we established a committee, including teachers and a representative from the Parents & Citizens Committee to brainstorm and develop a plan, enlisted the support of a parent with landscaping knowledge to help with selection of plants and layout of plants, invited school families to be involved in a “busy bee” to help with planting, conducted a successful “busy bee” with many kindergarten and pre-primary children and families volunteering their time to assist in the planting of the garden and developed a roster system for classes to take care of the nature space. This has provided the children with responsibility and ownership over the garden.
