Busy Bee and Butterfly Garden

Warwick Community Kindy

We wanted to create a safe landing and feeding environment for bees and butterflies by planting plants that will attract these insects and allows them to feed. We created an outdoor natural educational learning environment where children can help attend the gardens and observe the bees and butterflies that will now visit this garden. Children learnt what plants are required to attract bees and butterflies and how to care for these plants. Watering, weeding and adding natural compose from our compose bins to the garden as a form of fertiliser. Allowing the children to tend the gardens has given them a person sense of achievement as they watch the plants grow from seedlings to flowering plants and vegetables. The children have then shared this information with their families at drop off times. The children were educated as to the life cycle of both bees & butterflies and many families have communicated back to us that the children are always on the lookout for these insects in the wider environment.
